It’s snowing, the school is cancelled and I’m so happy!!!
I love how I went back to school for a couple of days and now I'm having a 4-day weekend (including the MLK day). The cat is utterly confused, A. is still in FL (so he's missing the first day of snow in 2018 -probably for the 6th year in a row?) and I don't have anyone else to go out and play in the snow with (I'm too terrified to drive in this weather), which means I'm staying in and reading my books as I watch my pretty backyard from the window. Such a bliss!
I was upset momentarily, thinking how much we're falling behind (It's the second week of the school and my MidEast class has met only twice so far, and one of those was the syllabus day) but not going to school for one more day means I have time to do all the things I postponed over the break. I needed that, especially after agreeing to give a talk at my alma mater on my current research project -yikes!
The thought had never occurred to me when I was living in upstate NY, but perhaps professors love snow days just as much as students do? Maybe even more so? Because the early morning text from your colleague ("TODAY IS CANCELLED. GO BACK TO BED!") is restorative like nothing else!
