E-mail from the department chair: "We are in the process of preparing a mailer to our alumni leading up to Homecoming 2020, so what I need to create is a mini-paragraph describing a little update on each of us."
M's response: "M.L. works every moment of her wake hours on research to get out of this hellhole. However, when she takes a break you may catch her texting her friend B. so they can either sexually objectify contemporary dictators or just once again make fun of the bromance that they all have with Putin."

You know, as much as I would like to have a mentor who is a decade or two older than me, I do feel like I get so much of what I need from just having really good friendships with smart, thoughtful people whose approaches to teaching, decision-making, etc., are different enough from mine that I can learn a lot from observing them and talking through things with them. anyway sorry for doing all kinds of heavy processing in my public diary today (if you can believe it this was only like 25% of the processing I’ve done in the past 48 hours if you factor in all the texts and phone calls). but I’ve got great friends and I respect them a lot and in moments like this, i always feel so, so glad to have them in my life.
