"In the criminal justice system, sexually based offenses are considered especially heinous.."
Another Tuesday afternoon, another SVU marathon. But even the most grotesque crimes in these episodes pale in comparison to the real life violence against women. This makes me sick. Every day I seem to lose more hope in humanity.

+just a shit ton of ranting:
It pisses me off that as women we always have to walk around worried and self-conscious instead of carefree and confident because “guys are wired differently! they have the y chromosome, so be prepared to be sexually assaulted! especially if you’re showing skin!” - uhm, no. Why should the saying “boys will be boys” dictate girls' lives forever? I shouldn’t have to be cautious about what I’m doing just because I have an instilled fear of rape on my shoulders. Yes, let's teach women to be alert, but why not teach men not to rape at the same time?! Seriously. Sayings like “boys will be boys” need to stop being a valid thing that automatically exempts men from consequences. This whole thing needs to stop. The belief that men are more powerful, therefore they can take what they want. The belief that men want sex, and can get it whenever they want. The idea that men have power so they will use it to get what they want and the belief that women are weak and subject to power will ultimately led to them being raped. No. They do nothing but dismiss their behavior and character, and sugar coat situations that shouldn’t be disregarded. Plus, nobody is ever “asking for it” in a rape situation because if you literally asked the person to have sex with you, and you were both agreeing, then it wouldn’t be rape in the first place! I don't understand how people can't see it's not the lack of female modesty, but the male sense of entitlement that leads to sexual violence against women, it's so plain and simple.
And as if this wasn't enough, people seem to think that perpetuators will be sodomized in prison, which will take the victim's revenge and the whole society will feel the relief. Justice will be served, etc. and literally everybody agrees. Really? Do we need to have an argument about this? Any sort of debate? That's the root of the problem. This. is. rape. culture. The fact that rape threats are a thing says a lot about how almost everyone sees rape as a tool to punish and control others, not as something that needs to be eliminated. Yes, they may very well try to dignify what they mean by that, but it is misogyny, end of the story. Age-old male violence against women. The problem of rape will be not be solved unless our culture recognizes violence as a weakness instead of a strength.
