No more dissertation chapters, no more books, no more professors' looks of approval and validation for a job well done! At least, not until the fall. After several weeks filled with trips, events, a lot of booze and time spent with friends, I came back to the old world, and finally I can breathe a sigh of relief, but not for too long..because I have a field study to start just in a couple of days!
I still can't believe I already booked a solo trip to African continent and the panic is beginning to set in! Sure, I frequently travel “alone” for work and leisure, but always with an event or friends at the destination. This trip is different because there’s nobody I’m meeting on the other side, nor much of a plan other than “show up.”
Breathe. Be present. Fieldwork is a process, not a product.
Well, here’s to three weeks of a foreign city, and shamelessly asking people to do interviews with me!
