"everyday is #academichalloween with imposter syndrome" From that perspective, I think having my teaching observation today wasn't a bad idea. At least I didn't have a major breakdown before and after it and students were mostly paying attention and responding to my questions. I am really lucky to have a chair who's really supportive, because the main thing she told me was to slow down a bit (I feel like I have so many things to tell them that sometimes I rush through the material, forgetting to take a break and let them absorb the ideas) and keep the prezis short and sweet. They don't need to know everything. I need to keep reminding that to myself. Less is more. I'm not raising future politicians just yet, and it's okay if they don't know the difference between endogenous and exogenous theories to explain democracy and economic development. -unfortunately, it's easier said than done, but I'll see what I can do. So before I go and grade 10 more papers by tomorrow, I'll leave a "do not disturb" sign on my door for trick-or-treaters and eat all the candy to motivate myself to get more stuff done. After all, working on my interviews before confronting the academic job market is scary enough to be considered celebrating Halloween, no? Q: What are you supposed to be? A: Writing. | ||
