I’ve always had very mundane dreams (usually about stuff that I think about during the day, or things I plan to do the next day), but never before have I dreamt about something in detail and then have that happen to me within a couple of days… until today. Two nights ago, I dreamt that I was somewhere with friends and I got a call from an unknown number - for some reason, I couldn't pick up the phone, but I saw the screen and it was from Sacramento, CA. This strange feeling swept over me, and I was hit with an intuitive understanding that it was from a school that I applied to. I felt unusually calm and happy, as if nothing could go wrong with this even if they rejected me in the end. Then today, as I laid in my bed, watching the PBS documentary on Yemen, I did receive a call from Sacramento, CA. And, lo and behold, it was from a school that I did not even remember applying to (I did so many of these that at this point it all feels like a blur), asking me if I would be interested in a phone interview next week. Every detail, every sensation, every inch of my surroundings, perfectly mimicked my dream, and I felt the exact sense of calm and relief as I talked on the phone. What is also weird about the whole thing is that this is probably the only call I received about scheduling a phone interview -usually, search committee chair sends an e-mail about setting up some time, and adds some Skype address for me to reach them during a specified time. I haven't even heard from anybody that they had been called on their personal phones for such requests, and it was definitely unexpected in that sense as well. I figure that this is a ‘broken clock is right twice a day’ kind of coincidence, especially because I had been thinking a lot about applications recently - otherwise I have the lamest psychic powers ever. The only other similar thing I can think of is how, when I was younger, I used to be really good at predicting what people were going to say and the tone of voice they would use, although that seems like common sense and pattern recognition more than anything else. | ||
