‘Tis the season for student evaluations. While most of my students gave me glowing evaluations, there was one in the morning section, who…well….is still sore that I have standards. It was either from a student I caught plagiarizing, or from a student who put a one page quote in a two page research paper and responded to my statement of fact (“You have a one page quote in a two page paper.”) with “I feel like you’re insulting me." Question: "How could your instructor improve the teaching of this course?” Answer: "She was unauthoritative [sic] and I think people took advantage of how unauthoritative she was." Part of me laughs at the irony of this. (Both potential culprits were very disrespectful to me.) But the other part of me wants to sit the student down and have a “come to jesus” discussion about their attitude towards me, and education in general. | ||
