Since yesterday's March for Science, I've been hearing the same argument everywhere: "Yes, but science is supposed to be apolitical." Honestly… you need to live with the fact that it's not. Science is and has always been political. What is researched and who is doing that research has always been effected not only by the presiding government but also by the attitudes of society. There's a reason why shit like eugenics happens, there's a reason why Galileo was forced to recant his theory, and there's a reason why scientific pursuit is largely associated with men despite women being equally intellectually capable. More important, there's a reason why regime change usually goes hand in hand with scientists fleeing or being booted from their countries. So let's get rid of the concept of “science” as some monolith that contains a full sum of 100% true facts about the universe or the human world, shall we? - it's a simply method, or rather, a strategy of analyzing and understanding the world. It's not the complete truth & it's not something infallible - as science, by definition, is falsifiable. Ugh. //rant over. | ||
