Nothing like taking a nature hike while venting about life on tenure-track. Especially after teaching a class on democratization, which, by the way, observed by my department chair (Luckily, students acted like themselves: they were interested and very much engaged in the material -so it went well.) Hiking was Jessie's idea but it was exactly what I needed. Plus, she's is so cool and we're already making plans about every weekend our significant others are not around. Possibly going to costume shopping next Thursday and then to Shelby's Halloween party next weekend, even though that would mean traveling to a different state.
J. called me to ask about the Spencer talk at my alma mater. It was nice to talk to him, the phrase “this made me think of you” is probably my favorite thing someone can ever say to me, and he clearly takes my ideas very seriously. Since the tension between us seems to be gone, it's all good now. Oh, also..my fellow Gators sent our favorite punching bag a very clear message "not in my swamp" and even as a staunch institutionalist, I found it beautiful.
Back to work now. This whole Catalonia mess is starting to give me a headache.
