It was 34 F out this morning and I had to defrost my car -- it’s officially that time of year! :/ It's not that I miss Florida and its humid weather all year long or anything. After living in northeast for quite a bit, I feel like I can deal with the cold... but I much prefer a gradual build-up to winter temperatures rather than a sudden charge into winter’s icy grasp.

Shelby outdid herself once again with her annual Halloween Party. Her house was amazingly decorated, we showed up in costumes (I was Scarlet Overkill, Jessie was Minion Bob; Sarah and Andre came as Rick & Morty), talked endlessly about the pasy, present & future as we carved our jack-o-lanterns. It was such a great weekend. I really, really, really love my friends, my good & loyal angel-esque friends; and every time I see them I can't believe how lucky I am to have them in my life.

I keep complaining about grading, but sometimes I think I'm being a little ungrateful. I work at a beautiful university. I spend my weekends reading about what I like and I spend my weekdays marking papers in my cozy office while my colleagues occasionally bring me imported Italian coffee and pastries on a tray. Everything is good & I am very blessed. Sometimes it’s hard to remember, but I’m going to keep trying to remind myself.

Ah. Also...Claude sent me a "Happy Republic Day" e-mail yesterday. In Turkish (sometimes I forget who is "the [real] Turk" in this institution). Happy Republic Day indeed. May our pride never cloud our ability to right our nation’s wrongs.
