Had my first observation of the year. The chair attended my class on Indonesia and shared her anecdotal notes with me, with a surprised look on her face: "I thought you said this wasn't your field of expertise!"
I don’t do dog-and-pony shows for observations. I do what we would have done anyway (maybe I’m a little more careful with the facts). So it was really encouraging that the stuff I do every day is awesome stuff!
Now I just have to deal with that demon in the back of my mind whispering “the chair only said this to encourage you, since you're new and she doesn't want you to feel discouraged” or or “you questioned the impact of a small-class size in your Pre-Ob meeting and any low ratings would seem retaliatory.” The demon is wrong, but he’s loud.
