Cannot wait for my students to ask why they haven't received the grades for the assignment they submitted at midnight on Sunday:

"Sorry, I was a little bit distracted by the onset of World War III, a few countries away, and I am still somehow struggling with the ongoing worldwide pandemic on top of my regular non-stop teaching and research responsibilities, but sure, I will grade the papers you spent "TWO WHOLE HOURS" writing, as soon as I can!"

Can't wait for totally boring, utterly uninteresting times to happen in my lifetime, either. I mean I appreciate the lessons and life experiences and all, but I am getting tired!

From when I can remember: First Gulf War, Kurdish insurgency, Devaluation of 1994, Yugoslavian Civil War, Bosnia and genocide, the Economic crisis of 2001, 9/11, Invasion of Afghanistan, Second Gulf War, Great Recession, Arab Spring, MidEast Civil Wars, Gezi, Fourth Wave of Authoritarianism, Sovereign Debt Crisis in Europe, Refugee Crisis, Coups in Africa, Covid-19, and War in Ukraine (twice).

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

M said you can learn the most from your experiences to —
(clears throat) I know where you’re going with this.
..and also what feelings you project onto them—
Primarily, I guess, disappointment? Profound irritation? Probably more toward the disgusted end of the spectrum? Like 95% of the way?
