hello okay i’ve graded like... probably 20 things? i lost count. but i enjoyed it and i always forget that even though grading is painful it actually can be so interesting to get to engage with somebody’s thoughts in this more one-on-one kinda way. ALSO sometimes it demonstrates the most amazing learning experiences! like one of my students analyzed whether israel was a state for jews, or state of jews, and discussed what this meant in the context of zionism - even though this student could not even find israel on the map a few months ago! another, a lovely student with no background knowledge on the region, explained how non-state armed actors, rather than the us withdrawal or the abraham accords, changed the dynamics in the middle east and i was pleasantly surprised to see the depth of analysis there! now they can go ahead and pretend that they are middle east experts! they probably know more than those talking heads that dominate the 24-hour news anyway... oh, small victories!

i am going to try to get through the sixteen remaining essays in the next hour before my dear friend s. arrives bc those are most pressing and also take the most mental energy, and then i am going to try to power through 15 of the intro exams. I CAN DO IT!!!! AND I’LL FEEL SO GODDAMN GOOD WHEN IT’S DONE!!!!!!!!!
